Art News from Julie

“Find a beautiful piece of art. If you fall in love with Van Gogh or Matisse or John Oliver Killens, or if you fall in love with the music of Coltrane, the music of Aretha Franklin, or the music of Chopin – find some beautiful art and admire it, and realize that that was created by human beings just like you, no more human, no less.” Maya Angelou

It’s been a while since I’ve posted new information so here is a listing:

For those in the Akron Ohio area, I was invited to be in a summer show at The Log Cabin Gallery in Peninsula.  Most of my art there is landscapes and brightly painted “florals”. You can also buy prints, cards, and my coasters. The show is a combination of many artists and it’s well worth your time to go visit. There is lots of garden art and other unique pieces too. It’s open Fri-Sun 11-5 on the weekends till July 23rdhttp://thelogcabingallery.com/

Other art news

The 8th annual May Show at Lakeland Community College is on until July 14th. If you are quick you can visit the Gallery at Lakeland Community College, the college is located off Rt. 306.  Two of my abstracts were selected to be in this juried show. It certainly was a great honor to be in this art show!  My paintings “Scarlet Leather” and “I Am Not Alone” were accepted. My painting “It’s More than Black and White” was accepted into the Fairmount Center for the Arts Annual Art show as well.

I am getting 30 or so paintings ready to be hung on display at the Western Reserve Land Conservancy office in Moreland Hills. Those paintings will be up from mid-July through September. It’s an amazing building that you are free to walk through during their open hours. It’s a great drive down River Road to get there and while you are there you can visit some of Cleveland’s wonderful Metroparks. The Land Conservancy building is across from the polo fields. http://www.wrlandconservancy.org/ for times and location.

You can always view my art at Stella’s Art Gallery in the Match Works Building in Mentor Ohio. It’s a wonderful location to visit and there is a new restaurant in the same building. We have over 30 local artists with a variety of styles and many different mediums.  Stella’s Arts was on New Day Cleveland. Here is the link to watch the TV spot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkChAlMOokI&feature=youtu.be

On a more personal note:

My hair is soft, thick, darker and curly! Although I’m feeling much better now that chemotherapy is over, I feel that some of my creativity, as well as my focus ability, has changed somewhat. During this time, I have worked on my art, but because of either energy levels and lack of feeling inspired or whatever you want to call it, I have been experimenting with different methods and styles. It’s been a learning experience, but not without many frustrations. My treatment is still going on but should be over by the end of summer. I admit that this medical situation has put me behind in many areas of my life and I have a way to go to get back on track. I have not been alone in this journey, God has been there every step-even when I haven’t realized it, for that I am thankful.

“Go and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here. Make. Good. Art.” ~Neil Gaiman
